Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) was formed in 1969 identified the role and importance of space technology in a Nation's development. It has then embarked on its mission to provide the Nation space based services and to develop the technologies to achieve the same independently. Thus, ISRO is moving forward with the development of heavy lift launchers, human spaceflight projects, reusable launch vehicles, semi-cryogenic engines, single and two stage to orbit (SSTO and TSTO) vehicles, development and use of composite materials for space applications etc.
The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) set a world record by launching 104 satellites on board a Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) flight on February 15, 2017. It was the 39th flight of PSLV, and it's 16th flight in the XL configuration, where additional motors are strapped onto the rocket. Out of 104 satellites launched, 101 served the international customers and the rest 3 served ISRO (CARTOSAT-2D, INS-1A & INS-1B). The Indian government deserves praise for giving the department of space a 23 percent hike in the recent budget. This remarkable feat by ISRO cemented India's place in the $300 billion global space industry. The whole world now looks at the Indian Space agency with greater expectations for the future.#2. Mission 20 (2016)
The Indian Space agency created wonders when the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV-C34) propelled 20 satellites in span of 26 minutes. The mission rocketed to space from Satish Dhawan Space Centre SHAR, Sriharikota. The launch carried satellites built by university students from India, the US, Canada, Germany and Indonesia including the Cartosat-2.#3. Chandrayaan-1 (2008)
This Lunar Exploration programme from ISRO hit the global headlines almost a decade ago with the impact probe making a stunning discovery of water on the moon although it lost contact soon after. With this mission, ISRO joined the elite league of six space agencies to successfully send an orbiter to the moon.#4. Mars Orbiter Mission (MoM) - Mangalyaan (2014)
The space agency made India insanely proud with the successful placement of the probe into Martian orbit in the very first attempt on a shoestring budget of just Rs.450-crore. The probe is revolving round the Red Planet collecting data on Mars’ atmosphere and mineral composition. This mission placed India in the elite list of four nations to have successfully ventured into the Martian orbit. India is the first country in the world to successfully enter the Martian orbit in a maiden attempt.#5. Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System (IRNSS) (2016)
In a historic moment, ISRO made India self-sufficient with indigenous navigation system to provide real-time positioning and timing services. These service can extend to regions 1500 km around India. IRNSS satellite constellation consists of three satellites in GEO orbit and four satellites in GSO orbit. The constellation has been named NAVIC (Navigation with Indian Constellation).#6. Reusable Launch Vehicle (RLV) 2016
The country's space organization successfully tested the Reusable Launch Vehicle - Technology Demonstrator (RLV-TD), dubbed India's space shuttle is the first stage of a fully re-usable vehicle, seen as the future of low cost, reliable and on-demand space access. This test put India in the same category as Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin and Elon Musk’s SpaceX, which are also attempting at creating transportation for space travel.
